It became known as the Impossible Dream. On October 1, 1967, the Sox defied 100-to-1 preseason odds by clinching their first pennant in 21 years. Boston fell to the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series, but the ’67 team became beloved, since the pennant alone, indeed, seemed impossible.
