One of the most famous parts of Fenway Park, Pesky’s Pole is the nickname for the right field foul pole. According to Johnny Pesky, who played second base, shortstop and third base for Boston, former teammate and Sox broadcaster Mel Parnell named the pole after Pesky won a game in 1948 with a home run to right. On September 27, 2006, Pesky’s 87th birthday, the Red Sox officially dedicated the location as Pesky’s Pole and placed a commemorative plaque at its base.
