Boston Red Sox supporters sit in the stands at Fenway Park prior to the start of the World Series in Boston, Massachusetts in October 1912.
Fenway’s first year was a banner one for Beantown, as the Sox beat the New York Giants in the World Series. The victory was particularly sweet, since eight years earlier, the Giants refused to play Boston because manager John McGraw thought the Red Sox were not worthy of facing his National League outfit. Perhaps the baseball gods were watching: in the decisive game seven, the Sox rallied for two runs in the tenth inning thanks to two costly Giants fielding mistakes.
