While most players direct their venom towards an umpire, a linesman or a racket, at the Sony Ericsson Open in 2008, Mikhail Youzhny directed it at himself. After losing a point to opponent Nicolas Almagro by driving a ball into the net, the 25-year-old Russian hit himself over the head with his racket three times. Blood began pouring from his forehead, prompting comparisons by sportcasters to Van Gogh. Youzhny recovered quickly, however, wiping the blood away with a towel. After a medical break, he went on to win the match.
