Smashing rackets is a common way for players to vent their fury. But Cypriot player Marcos Baghdatis took things to the next level by destroying four rackets in a row while playing Switzerland’s Stanislas Wawrinka at the 2012 Australian Open. After losing his second game, 26-year-old Baghdatis sat down, flung a towel over his head, and battered his racket into oblivion on the floor. He relinquished the mangled equipment to a ball boy, and then fell on three more, breaking them to bits. The display cost Baghdatis $1,250 in fines but it didn’t win him the match — he went on to lose to Wawrinka after a brief post-tantrum comeback. The incident wasn’t bad for everyone, however. The France-based company that makes Baghdatis’ rackets, Technifibre, told Forbes.com that “this may have actually been some good marketing for [us].”
