LONDON, ENGLAND - JUNE 16: Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria reacts during his mens singles semi-final match against David Nalbandian of Argentina on day six of the AEGON Championships at Queens Club on June 16, 2012 in London, England.
Before David Nalbandian went on to his fateful board-kicking final at the Queen’s Club, he had to defeat Bulgarian youngster Grigor Dimitrov, who has his own history of testosterone-fueled tirades. In 2010, Dimitrov, a former junior world champion nicknamed ‘Baby Fed’ after Swiss star Roger Federer, allegedly shoved and swore at an umpire after losing a match to Lithuanian Ricardas Berankis in the semifinals of an ATP Challenger event in Helsinki, Finland. The off-court assault resulted in a $3,100 fine for the then 19-year-old and a reprimand from the president of the Finnish umpire’s association, Antti Aine, who was present during the scuffle. “The immunity of the umpire is a sacred thing in sports,” Aine said. “You can disagree with calls but this was way out of line.”
