Former World No. 1 Andy Roddick’s temper came into its own in 2010. During the first round of the Australian Open in January, Roddick tripped over a line judge’s foot and fell to the ground. “Move out of the way when you see a player coming,” the 27-year-old American said, before going on to defeat his opponent Thiemo de Bakker from the Netherlands, later remarking that he “ran into one of those immovable objects called a referee.” Later that year, during a second-round defeat to Serbia’s Janko Tipsarevic at the U.S. Open, Roddick disagreed with a line judge who said his right foot (rather than his left) had been over the line during a serve. “That’s impossible, not once in my career has my right foot gone ahead of my left,” he raged. “Not ever, so why don’t you get some umpires who know what they’re doing? What is this, call 1-800-rent-a-ref?”
