13 Nov 2001: Goran Ivanisevic of Croatia in action during his match against Gustavo Kuerten of Brazil during day two of the Tennis Masters Cup held at the Sydney Superdome in Sydney, Australia.
In tennis, there are occasional racket smashers and serial racket smashers. Goran Ivanisevic cemented his spot in the latter category at the 2000 Samsung Open in Brighton by destroying every racket in his bag. When he had used up his three Head Prestige Classic 600s, the Croatian had to concede the second-round match to his opponent, Korea’s Hyung-Taik Lee, due to “lack of appropriate equipment.” The smashing spree didn’t dampen his career, however — Ivanisevic, ranked World No. 125, went on to win the men’s single’s title at Wimbledon the next year as a wildcard.
