Steve Sparks of the Detroit Tigers delivers a pitch against the Cleveland Indians on June 19, 2003 in Detroit, Michigan.
The day after Steve Sparks watched musclemen bend iron bars and tear apart phone books at a motivational training session, the Milwaukee Brewers pitcher felt their superhuman strength guiding him. Too bad it didn’t translate into action. When he tried to rip through the Phoenix Yellow Pages with his bare hands, he dislocated his shoulder and had to head to the hospital to have it set back into place. Let’s hope Sparks didn’t have to look up his coach’s number afterward to explain that he wouldn’t be able to play in the major leagues for all of 1994.
