Relief pitcher Joba Chamberlain throws a pitch against the Los Angeles Angels on June 5, 2011 in Anaheim, California.
This is one injury that leaves few jumping for joy. While the New York Yankees’ relief pitcher was playing with his son at an amusement center, he landed badly on his ankle while bouncing on a trampoline. By all accounts, he wasn’t just clowning around – Chamberlain suffered an “open dislocation” where the bone went through the skin of his right ankle and he was hospitalized for many days. It was a gruesome and bloody injury for a baseball player who was already well-acquainted with the bench. Chamberlain, who missed the entire 2011 season with an elbow injury, will likely miss much of this season, too.
