From left: Vince DiMaggio of the Cincinnati Reds, Joe DiMaggio of the New York Yankees, and Dominic DiMaggio of the Boston Red Sox, at the All-Star baseball game in Tampa, Fla on March, 18, 1940.
Only one DiMaggio is an icon. But the whole family could play the game. Hall of Famer Joe is best known for his 56-game hitting streak in 1941 for the New York Yankees; that record may never be broken (great stat: the day after the streak ended, he hit safely in the next 17-games). In a 13-year career for the Yankees, Joe’s average was a stellar .325. The youngest Dimaggio was Dom, and played centerfield for the Boston Red Sox, and finished his career with a .298 average. Oldest brother Vince once drove in 100 runs for the Pittsburgh Pirates. The year he did that? 1941. Overshadowed by Joe again.
