A devastated” Lindsey Vonn announced Tuesday morning she would be unable to compete for a second Olympic gold medal in the Sochi Games this February.

Vonn re-injured a damaged knee Dec. 21 in Val d’Isere, France, after undergoing major surgery on it 11 months ago. Her publicist said MRI tests on Vonn’s knee showed damage to the medial collateral ligament, as well as the anterior cruciate ligament. “[The injury] has made it impossible to stabilize her knee and be ready to safely ski again next month,” the statement said.

Vonn plans on being back for next year’s World Cup.
