Researchers at Boston University conducted the largest study to date on how concussions can damage the brain. By studying brain tissue from deceased athletes and military veterans who suffered head trauma, they say that chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), which results from repeated blows to the head, occurs in four stages.
