The French were aiming to become the first World Cup winners to double up at the Euros, but Marco Delvecchio’s second-half strike put a serious damper in those plans. It just didn’t seem to be Les Bleus’ night, as the likes of Sylvain Wiltord and Thierry Henry failed to find their mark. But with Zinedine Zidane wresting control of midfield and France throwing in a third striker in the form of David Trezeguet, the equalizer came, as Wiltord broke free in injury time to finally put one past Francesco Toldo. And for the second final in a row, extra-time would prove golden, as Trezeguet’s sumptuous strike ended the tournament in a flash.
