Europe’s Captain in 2008 was Nick Faldo and he had a pretty disastrous stint in the hotseat. Among his various gaffes was calling Soren Hansen “Soren Stenson” and commenting that Irish player Padraig Harrington had hit more practice shots than there were potatoes in Ireland. But Sandwich-gate took some beating: Faldo’s first day pairing were caught on camera well in advance though he maintained that they were merely sandwich fillings for his players. “It had sandwich requests for the guys,” he said, “just making sure who wants the tuna, what wants the beef, who wants the ham.” And after being soundly (b)eaten 16.5 – 11.5, Faldo, if you will, had to eat his words.
