Team USA has won 25 times, lost 10 and there have been two ties, most recently in 1989, whereby Europe retained the trophy. On the eve of competition, Montgomerie told Pavin, “I wish you well and may the best team win. The true winner of the Ryder Cup will always be the game of golf.”
