A guard for the Harlem Globetrotters narrowly avoided serious injury Friday when the basket collapsed on him during a dunk in a game in Honduras.
The exhibition basketball team was playing in Tegucigalpa, Honduras on Friday, when guard William “Bull” Bullard went to pull off his signature move–a slam dunk through his legs with his feet on the backboard. Suddenly, the basket collapsed on top of him. The hoop narrowly missed crushing his head and the backboard shattered when it hit the ground:
Bullard, a 6’4″ guard, suffered a gash over his left eye and a dislocated shoulder. “By the time I realized that the rim was coming down, it was too late, and it crashed down on me,” Bullard told the New York Daily News. After doctors popped his shoulder back in, Bullard came out of the locker room to wave to the crowd. The team says he should be good to go by the time the Globetrotters start a North American tour the day after Christmas.
