U.S. Women’s soccer star Abby Wambach, 33, announced her marriage to her 29-year-old teammate and longtime partner, Sarah Huffman, via Twitter Wednesday.
The wedding took place last Saturday at the Villas at Po’ipu Kai on the island of Kauai, Hawaii, as TMZ first reported. The two formerly both played in the shuttered Women’s Professonial Soccer (WPS) and Women’s United Soccer Association (WUSA) before playing together last season for the Western New York Flash in the first season of the National Women’s Soccer League.
Wambach, the 2012 FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year helped secure the U.S. gold medal victory at the London Olympics last year, and broke Mia Hamm’s record for most goals at 160 international goals in her career.
