New York City new mayor isn’t going to the Super Bowl on Sunday, even though it’s being held in his city’s back yard.
Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Thursday that he’ll watch the game at home with his son instead, the Associated Press reports. The game is being held in MetLife Stadium just over the Hudson River from Manhattan.
“I’ve very excited that the NFL is hosting the Super Bowl in our area,” de Blasio said. “I’ve enjoyed participating in all the festivities leading up to Super Bowl Sunday, but I’ve decided to watch the game on TV, just like the vast majority of New Yorkers.”
Elected officials are prohibited from accepting free tickets.
