The U.S. Olympic Committee told its athletes at the upcoming Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia to avoid wearing their uniforms too prominently in the city amid heightened security concerns.
“The U.S. Department of State has advised that wearing conspicuous Team USA clothing in non-accredited areas may put your personal safety at greater risk,” says the memo to athletes, obtained by the Wall Street Journal.
The U.S. revealed its colorful, Ralph Lauren-designed uniforms on Thursday.
Reports of terror threats have raised concerns ahead of the Feb. 7 start for the Winter Olympics, and the U.S. says it is cooperating with Russian authorities on security for athletes and spectators.
