Detroit Tigers Miguel Cabrera smiles to fans after hitting a two-run single against the Kansas City Royals in the third inning of their MLB American League baseball game in Kansas City, Missouri October 2, 2012.

Andrew McCutchen of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Miguel Cabrera of the Detroit Tigers nabbed the Most Valuable Player awards Thursday.

McCutchen won the National League honor in a landslide, with 28 of the 30 first-place votes, while Cabrera won the American League award for the second year in a row, the Associated Press reports.

Center fielder McCutchen, who batted .317 with 21 home runs and 84 RBIs, helped the Pirates break their 20-year losing streak and make it to the playoffs for the first time since 1992.

Slugger Cabrera, who batted .348 despite dealing with minor injuries this year, is the first player to win consecutive American League MVP awards in almost 20 years.
