The National Football League said Monday that it will meet next month with an American-Indian tribe pushing for the Washington Redskins to change their team name.

But Redskins owner Dan Snyder remains adamant about keeping the name, and the issue isn’t on the agenda for meetings of team owners this week, the Associated Press reports.

NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said the league will discuss the Oneida Indian Nation’s “Change the Mascot” campaign with tribal leaders next month. The tribe says the name is a “dictionary-defined, offensive racial epithet,” and is demanding it be changed.

President Barack Obama said last week that he would “consider” changing the name of the team if it were up to him. A recent poll found that four out of five Americans don’t think the team should change its name.
