After winning the National League Rookie of the Year award in 2010, and helping the San Francisco Giants take the World Series that season, Posey suffered a gruesome injury in 2011. On a play at the plate in late May, Florida’s Scott Cousins barreled into the Giants catcher, breaking his left leg. Posey missed the rest of the regular season, and his health was one of the biggest question marks going into spring training.
Answer: he looks just fine. Posey insists he felt normal, and his spring numbers—Posey caught 49 innings, and hit .306—backed up his words. In an exhibition game against the A’s on Monday, Giants fans cheered Posey when he took his position as catcher, and each time he came to bat. A full-season comeback, and another Giants pennant run, will keep the Bay Area clapping all season.
