Eight years on, and New Zealand were up to their old tricks of throwing away seemingly unassailable leads to the French. Even worse for the All Blacks was that in 2007, it took place in the quarter-final, with their exit being the earliest stage at which they’ve ever been eliminated. The location was the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, and this time New Zealand saw a 13-0 lead somehow turn into a 20-18 defeat (scrum-half Brendon Leonard looks on dejected). They might be the most consistent team in rugby history but the All Blacks’ wait to lift the Webb Ellis Cup has now become 24 years.
