Shaun White was the overwhelming favorite to win gold on the halfpipe snowboarding event Tuesday for his third consecutive Olympics Games. Instead, he came in fourth.

The snowboarding superstar fell twice during his finals runs, and the gold medal went to Iouri Podladtchikov of Switzerland, who won with a score of 94.75. Japanese snowboarders Ayumu Hirano and Taku Hiraoka took silver and bronze.

White’s failure to win a medal on the halfpipe comes after he pulled out of the slopestyle snowboarding competition, citing a risk of injury and his desire to focus on the half pipe.
