Former Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe says he was released from the team because of his open support for same sex marriage. Writing in Deadspin, Kluwe also accused former head coach Leslie Frazier, general manager Rick Spielman, and special-teams coordinator Mike Priefer of using homophobic language during team meetings.

Vikings spokesperson Jeff Anderson denied the reports in an email statement to USA TODAY Sports. “Any notion that Chris was released from our football team due to his stance on marriage equality is entirely inaccurate and inconsistent with team policy,” Anderson said. “Chris was released strictly based on his football performance.”
