The UFC middleweight title ended in dramatic fashion Saturday night when Anderson Silva suffered a cringe-worthy leg injury, collapsing to the ground and losing to Chris Weidman.

Anderson, 38, broke his shin on a kick to Weidman’s knee less than 2 minutes into the second round at the Las Vegas event, the New York Daily News reports. The 38-year-old Brazilian’s shin was bent to a 90-degree angle while Weidman uncomfortably accepted his UFC 168 belt.

“There’s no real excitement in a fight finishing like that, because you never want to see anyone get hurt like that,” Weidman said.

Weidman (11-0) defended his title for the second time over Silva (33-6), who left the MGM Grand Garden on a stretcher. Silva enjoyed seven years as reigning champion of the middleweight division before Weidman upset him at UFC 162 in July.

Changing of the guard. GSP walks away from the belt and Silva has a terrible injury. It's good to see some fresh fighters in there now. A lot like when Hughes, Penn, Franklin, Lidddel and Couture were defeated.
