Washington Redskins tackle Trent Williams says a referee cursed at him during a drive in Sunday’s loss to the Philadelphia Philadelphia Eagles.

Williams said umpire Roy Ellison walked past him after a play and unleashed a string of obscenities. Other players echoed his account, and an NFL spokesman told ESPN that the league will investigate the accusation.

When Williams recounted the exchange after the game, several teammates warned him to stop, shouting at him during his interview. But Williams said that he didn’t care if he was fined. “I don’t think there’s no room for that, to take that from the team and the refs,” he said. “It’s very unprofessional. It sucks. I’m at a loss of words. You never expect that as a player to have to beef with the refs also.”

Several players have corroborated Williams’ accusation.”I’ve never heard anything like that before in my life,” said Redskins guard Kory Lichtensteiger. “I don’t know what it was, but that guy came out with some kind of vendetta. I don’t have a lot else to say, but I heard the comment.”

The referee, when reached by ESPN correspondents, did not comment on the accusation.
