An off-road motorcycle race took a tragic turn when a 30-year-old star died Friday in Baja California, Mexico.

Kurt Caselli was transported to a local hospital after sustaining head injuries from a motorcycle crash during the SCORE Tecate Baja 100. He died overnight, Dirt Bike magazine reports.

It is unclear what exactly caused the crash, but the race was riddled with obstacles or booby traps, which locals add to the course as part of the entertainment.
