A newly minted New York Jet (gamemakers Electronic Arts had to reissue the Madden cover after the longtime Green Bay Packers QB changed teams), Favre led the team to an 8-3 record before a torn tendon in his arm benched him for the season.

Retired NFL quarterback Brett Favre says he is suffering from serious memory loss as a result of his days on the field.

The famously tough football legend played a record-setting 297 regular season games in a row and spent much of his career playing the game before new rules protected quarterbacks and helmet-to-helmet collisions were banned. Now he says he’s paying a price, CBS reports.

“I don’t remember my daughter playing soccer, youth soccer, one summer. I don’t remember that,” he said in a radio interview Thursday. “I think after 20 years, God only knows the toll that will be taken as time goes by.”

Favre, 44, was sacked 525 times in his career and sustained an unknown number of concussions. “When I first started playing, those first 10 years, they didn’t keep a log like they do now, so there’s no telling,” he said.

Earlier this year the NFL agreed to a $756 million settlement with 4,500 retired players who sued over concussions sustained while playing the game.
