Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan, who found front office success after retiring from his playing career, announced on Thursday he will resign as CEO of the Texas Rangers, effective Oct. 31.
After capping a steller playing career — he still holds the Major League record for career strikeouts with 5,714 — Ryan moved to front office management, becoming the 10th president of the Rangers in 2008 and adding the CEO title three years later. Ryan helped lead the team to their first two World Series, and in both 2012 and 2013, the club attendance mark passed 3 million fans, according to ESPN.
According to AP, when asked by reporters if leaving the Rangers was a resignation or a retirement, Ryan said, “It’s time for me to move on to other things,” adding that he wouldn’t be the CEO of another Major League team.
