The NFL has reached a $765-million settlement with more than 4,500 former players suing the league for allegedly hiding the known risks of concussions, the Associated Press reports.

A judge still needs to approve the deal, which will fund medical exams, concussion-related compensation and research. The NFL has denied the allegations, and with a settlement the league will likely avoid having to release its own data on concussion-related injuries.

Among the plaintiffs are former Dallas Cowboys running back Tony Dorsett, two-time Super Bowl winner Jim McMahon and the family of Pro Bowl linebacker Junior Seau, who committed suicide last year.
