In 2003, the Los Angeles Lakers all-star was accused of sexually assaulting 19-year old hotel employee Katelyn Faber at a hotel in Eagle, Colorado. Bryant did confess to committing adultery, but denied raping Faber. Charges were eventually dropped — Faber refused to testify — and Bryant went so far as to say, “I now understand how she sincerely feels that she did not consent to this encounter.” (Faber filed a separate civil lawsuit, which the two sides settled, with the specific terms undisclosed to the public). Bryant initially remained together with his wife, Vanessa, and concentrated on winning titles for the Lakers, adding two more (2009, 2010) to the three accumulated before the allegations came out. But Vanessa filed for divorce in December 2011, citing “irreconcilable differences,” though they were spotted sharing a kiss after a recent game.
