Last year’s championship game between Duke and Butler felt more like a movie about a championship game. Butler, a small-town Indiana school, made a miraculous and unexpected run through the tournament, finding itself up against mighty Duke in the final game. David and Goliath references abounded, and the game itself almost seemed scripted, right down to the final shot, when Gordon Hayward heaved a half-court, buzzer-beating shot that not only would have given Butler the championship but would have been the greatest shot in the history of the tournament. Ultimately, it wasn’t meant to be, but the run Butler made in the 2010 tournament, knocking off talented and highly ranked Syracuse, Kansas State and Michigan State, will go down as one of the game’s great winning streaks.
