Ed Sneed, a journeyman who won just four PGA tournaments during his 16-year career none of them majors started his final round five shots ahead of his closest competitor, and had a three stroke edge with three holes to play. Yet he bogeyed 16, 17, and 18, missing make-able par putts on each, including a six-footer on the final hole that would have won the tournament. It stopped on the edge of the cup. Sneed, Fuzzy Zoeller and Tom Watson went to a playoff; Zoeller took home the Green Jacket. “Somewhere in there I hope I’ve learned something,” said Sneed.
